The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in
partnership with UNICEF, recently launched the Emergency Unconditional Cash
Transfer (UCT) program during its Media Tour in Guiuan, Eastern Samar (story
HERE).
I had been given the chance to interview some beneficiaries
about their plight after the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yolanda and
also their plans on the cash that they will be receiving from UNICEF.
"Nakakatulong ng sobra ang 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang
Pilipino Program) sa pamumuhay namin.
Nuong una kasi kapos, ngayon medyo okay na dahil sa 4Ps, nakakatulong nang
malaki sa schooling ng anak ko"
One of the DSWD's Pantawid Pamilya beneficiary from Suluan Island is very happy that they will be given additional money aside from the monthly Conditional Cash Transfer they receive from the government. This time, the unconditional cash transfer from UNICEF, is aimed to to help them recover from the detrimental effects of Yolanda.
The amount of 4,400Php monthly which will be bestowed to the
beneficiaries from July- December is essential for the continuance of their children's education, repair of their
damaged houses, and for supplementing their everyday needs.
Most of the money that they are receiving is for the
education of their children. School supplies, clothing, and shoes were all
washed-out by the typhoon. Of course, medicine is also badly needed to maintain
their children's health, which we all desire and is a priority of this program.
Thank you ,Ate. Though I forgot to ask your name, I know
that you are very happy not only because of the money that you will be
receiving but also because of the newfound hope that you and your family have
after the bad experience from the typhoon Yolanda.
