Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program Beneficiary of Sagada

Written By Ning Buning on Thursday, November 13, 2014 | Thursday, November 13, 2014

The Shangri-La of the North, Sagada is located almost 171 miles north of Manila, the 5th class municipality in the province of Mountain Province. Currently it has a population  of 11,244 (2010) with approximately 8,000 voters.

Even it has a 12-hour drive from Manila, Sagada is one of the provinces that the government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program reach. The Sagada municipality has 19 Barangays with 263 partner beneficiaries, clustered into 9 with a parent leader each, one of which I had a chance to interview.

Since birth Tatay Eugene and his family has been in Sagada, he is in fact became a barangay kagawad and serve the people for years. After his term in government, he didn't know how to provide his family until a non-government organization came into place and help them start a farming business, after a year that's where Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program started also their survey in Sagada and his family is qualified.

Tatay Eugene is using the Pantawid Pamilya cash grant for his family needs as well as for the things he love most which is farming. Among the plants that grows in his backyard, that he even sell in the market every harvest are pechay, kamote and even variety orange.

Another opportunity that Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program has given to them is the college scholarship for one of his son, Lambert at Benguet State University. I will share another story about BSU scholars on my next blog post.

It is so enriching every time I have a chance to interview Pantawid Pamilya beneficiary, aside from the lessons that I learn in every individual, I have a realization that the government really reaching and helping every Filipino in every part of our country and the most deserving and needed it has given a chance to help themselves also.
