The Gawad Buhay award-winning theater company 9 Works Theatrical, that brought Grease, They're Playing Our Song and Sweet Charity, now presents the most fabulous musical, La Cage Aux Folles (meaning "the cage of mad women), the 3-Time Tony Award Winner for Best Musical.
La Cage Aux Folles is based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, this glamorous musical that focuses on the love story between gay couple Georges, who manages a nightclub at Saint-Tropez and his partner Albin who on the other hand a star attraction. The conflict arise when Georges' son Jean-Michel brings home his fiancee's conservative parents to meet them.
La Cage Aux Folles was staged all over the world from Germany to Korea, Mexico to Australia, now it be seen here in Manila for the first time. It features the ensemble of artist from showbiz, dance, ballet and theater world to breathe new life into this production.
Let us all take a sumptuous dip into the love story of Georges (played by TV and film actor (Michael de Mesa) and Albin (played by veteran stage actor Audie Gemora).
"This is my first musical again after six years, my last was Hair Spray, since then, I've missed stepping on that stage, the only difficulty now that I've encounter is the matter of adjusting from taping and then rehearsing" Michael shared. "Theater is for my soul, theater is where I can really say that, I have roles that I have fun creating with and building characters."
9 Works Theatrical artistic director and La Cage director Robbie Guevarra said "The musical sheds light on issues such as acceptance, gender equality, but triumphs more so in its universality. It's a musical that speaks to everybody. At the core of its action are friendship, family, love and how it can exist between two people regardless of sex, background or ideology."
To complete the casts are Steven Silva, Missy Macuja-Elizalde, Raul Montesa, Sheila Francisco, Analin Bantug, Noel Rayos, Joni Galeste and Anne Dindon. Les Cagelles are Jp Basco, Mara Celine Javier, Randi de Guzman, Carlos Deriada, Chesko Rodriquez, Dindo Divinagracia, Cheeno Macaraig, James Stacey and rafa Siguion-Reyna.
La Cage Aux Folles will be shown at the RCBC Plaza, Makati on February 28, March 1,7,8,21,22,27,28,29, 2015 with Friday and Saturday galas at 8PM, SAturday matinees at 3.30PM and Sunday matinees at 4PM.
