ILOILO, a province in the Western Visayas of our country, is used as the title of the winning movie before its officially shown in Philippines. Won the Camera d'Or (Best Debut Feature) at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival. Directed by the Singaporean Mr. Anthony Chen, its latest achievement as the Best New Director and Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress (Yeo Yann Yann) and Best Picture at the 50th Golden Horse (China's Oscars).
The movie is a true to life story of the director himself Mr. Chen, when he was young having a Filipina housekeeper (Teresa) which portrayed by the Filipino actress Angeli Bayani. Based and showing the life and experiences of a young boy, his family, community and Ilongga nanny.
I've seen the movie and it really touches my heart, aside from the fact, that at a young age we have a nanny, I know how important it is to have one. Being attached to one is reality especially if they served you a long period of time. For me i think the film really deserves the recognition and awards given onto them. The director really showed the realistic situation of a Singaporean household, the actors and actresses especially Angeli act naturally and effectively, and finally the film discusses cultural and habitual norms of every nationalities.
"Iloilo" is locally distributed by Origin8 Media with the support of Commission on Filipinos Overseas, Philippine Migrants Rights Watch and more. Showing December 4. Let the story be told from Iloilo to the world...
