Last Tuesday, we had a chance to make perfume at the Scent Studio by BC Fragrance in SM North Towers, the Philippines’ first and only fragrance studio. It is own by the first professional Filipino perfumer Ms. Bernadette Lim, which took us all that day in a whole new level of knowledge about fragrance.
The objective of Scent Studio is to open its doors to budding perfume and scent entrepreneurs, hobbyists, as well as those looking for a new hobby to try their hand in creating the perfect scent that tickles their fancy.
This one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience allows you to be a scent creator, by learning and experience the art of crafting a scent that is not unique but also allows you to explore and experience a variety of scents that can be a stepping stone into a new hobby, business, or leisure time activity.
It is an honor to be mentored by the first Filipina perfumer in our very first blend fragrance, first she introduced herself then discusses what is her objective in putting a studio like this. Then she helps us discover and familiarized the various scent categories from lightest to heaviest (Aromatics to Woody), smelling each oil/notes using the blotters provided.
Top Notes includes Aromatic, Citrus and Marine; Middle Notes are Green, Fruity, Floral and Spicy; Bottom/Base Notes like Oriental, Gourmand, Leather, and Woody. The top notes are the fresh notes, the first that we can smell in a fragrance and evaporates faster, middle notes the heart of the fragrance, base notes the ones lingers on your skin a couple of hours.
For the main event, she then assisted us together with the studio's accommodating staff on how to choose, blend, and harmonizing the perfect recipe for a fragrance that is good as a perfume. A little bit of focus and a steady hand is a must hehe...
My blend smells so nice...so me...and it is under my name of course hehe...I just chose the aromatics that made an impact on my nose and viola..the three blends so well and with the right drops of notes and the amount of solvent in it, perfection!!! Ning is now available on your leading stores nationwide...kidding!
Most of us don’t know a whole lot about fragrance or what's in a bottle of our favorite perfume, now is your chance to know more about them or learn to make one that perfectly fits you.
The Scent Studio offers various classes for scent makers-to-be including the signature perfume making workshop, fragrance oil workshop, the kid scent discovery workshop for the younger ones, as well as a one-on-one blending session. Lesson duration can last as fast as 15 minutes, perfect for those waiting for appointments or those on the go.
Space also aims to properly propagate the proper knowledge of fragrances, as well as allow other crafters - such as soap makers, candle makers, and personal care product makers - to create scents unique to their line of products.
Scent Studio by BC Fragrance is located on the ground floor of Tower 2, SM North Towers, within the SM North EDSA complex, and allows scent explorers to play, learn, and experience the art from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
