REBISCO CRACKER'S PASOBRA PACK GIVES PASOBRA LOVE

Being able to eat healthy food is something that we often take for granted because it is a norm for us.But for many Filipino children and their families, access to nutritious meals is a constant struggle. Satisfying hunger is one thing; ensuring that the food is nourishing is another challenge altogether. This nutrition gap can lead to deficiencies that deprive a growing child’s body of proper nutrients needed for growth and brain development.

According to data from UNICEF, two of the main micronutrient deficiencies are iron and iodine. Iodine is vital for normal growth and tissue development. Lack of iodine can contribute to brain damage that is otherwise preventable. It is most devastating during fetal development and the first few years of a child’s life.

Iron helps carry oxygen around the body, and is especially vital for the brain and blood. Iron deficiency is the “most common and widespread nutritional disorder in the world.” Anemia, which occurs when red blood cells do not have enough iron-rich protein known as hemoglobin, can be detrimental to a child’s physical and cognitive development. It can also affect their productivity as adults.

PASOBRANG LOVE

Recognizing this need, local snack manufacturer Rebisco is pitching in to help make a difference in the lives of young Filipinos.

For every purchase of a Rebisco Cracker 200g handy pack aptly dubbed Pasobra Pack, Rebisco allocates a portion of the proceeds for the production of specially fortified biscuits. These ‘nutribiscuits’ are formulated with much-needed micronutrients—particularly iron and iodine—that help equip school-age children to be physically healthy and mentally active.

Rebisco has teamed up with the Department of Science and Technology-Food Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) to develop these nutritious biscuits, formulated to address the micronutrient deficiency problem prevalent in indigent communities.

PILOT FEEDING

Rebisco recently unveiled this advocacy program via the Department of Education (DepEd) Caloocan Division’s Oplan Kalusugan Program. The first batch of specially fortified biscuits was turned over during the launch event held at Bagong Silang in Caloocan, where Rebisco also set up a sampling booth for residents and students.

For the current academic year, Rebisco is providing nutribiscuits, supplemented by main meals from DepEd, to a total of 871 students from Grades 1 to 3 in three Caloocan-based public schools: Bagong Silang Elementary School, Gabriela Silang Elementary School and Sto. Nino Elementary School.

For the month of July, Rebisco has produced enough nutribiscuits for 1,120 children that will cover 120 days starting the 2019 school year. The snack food giant is continuously working to increase this number to help feed more children. Every purchase of the Rebisco Crackers Handy Pack is equivalent to one biscuit for one school day. FILIPINO IBO WORLD CHAMP MICHAEL “GLOVES ON FIRE” DASMARINAS’ BOUT AT MARINA BAY SANDS VS. PLANGE ENDS IN A DRAW

Ringstar Boxing, Asia’s fastest growing sports media property, just staged its biggest boxing match to date, with ‘Roar of Singapore V - The Kings of Lion City’, which took place at Marina Bay Sands last Saturday, September 29, 2018, and was seen all over the world via its broadcast partners.

Filipino IBO world champion Michael “Gloves on Fire” Dasmarinas’ non-title bout vs. Ghana’s Manyo “Black Flash” Plange, ended in a draw,   with the scorecards showing these numbers - 93-97, 95-95, and 96-94.

Boxing analyst Mike Ochosa shared his thoughts on the match, and says, “Plange was really ready for Michael Dasmarinas.  Whatever scouting reports we saw about him, is true. Makamay, masipag,…he punched a lot, so perhaps from the judges’ point of view, it looked like he was more aggressive, and he was the busier fighter.  However, if you look at the tapes, Michael was connecting the power shots, but not throwing a lot.  While Plange was not connecting, but throwing a lot.”

While Muhamad “The Chosen Wan” Ridhwan, faced his first defeat in his entire professional career, (11-1); with the IBO World Super Bantamweight title going to Namibian boxer Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda, at the end of the evening.  Ambunda won by split decision, with the judges scorecard showing - 115-113, 116-111, 112-115.

But Ridhwan assured his fans that he will be back, “I know Paulus is a fighter, I respect him…But I will come back.  I always come back.”

While Ringstar Founder & CEO Scott Farrell says, “Muhamad Ridwan showed that he’s ready, he may not have won the decision, but he’s ready and he will be back.  One day he will be world champion, mark my words.”

Sponsors and Partners of ‘Roar of Singapore V - The Kings of Lion City’ include NTUC FairPrice, Marina Bay Sands, Nutrifirst, Cobra Energy Drink, and Roomaif.

COKE STUDIO SEASON 2 HOMECOMING WITH QUEST AND JUAN MIGUEL SEVERO

Theyre only words, goes the refrain of an old pop song, but rapper Quest and spoken word pioneer Juan Miguel Severo wield words as mighty weapons.  And their love affair with words began very early.

Quest remembers:  My childhood was not easy.  Both my parents had problems so I spent a lot of time with my cousins.  And I would borrow casette tapes from them.  Thats how I fell in love with both words and music.  It happened at the same time.  Imagine, I started with cassettes and now theres streaming!  Juan Miguels memories are actually his moms stories.  My mom said that when I was two years old, I would give her a flower and recite a poem when I handed it to her.  She would write down these poems and save them.  Sadly, we live in a flood prone area and those poems are now lost.  I read my first book at 5 and wrote my first poem at 11.  And I also love performing and so it all comes together with spoken word.

Quest discovered his talent for rap with his church but then moved on to more mainstream works.  Recognized as an eminent urban storyteller and a microphone revolutionaryQuests song Sige Langwas named in 2012 as the official song of Gilas Pilipinas, the national mens basketball team.  Juan Miguel Severo began performing his spoken word works in university venues and smaller clubs until he was given a role in the Jadine teleserye On the Wings of Love and he brought spoken word to the world of television and thus, more popular recogntion.

The life of the artist is itself a quest, and both these artists cherish the journey.  Quest says:  I want my listeners to go on a journey from darkness to light; from sadness to joy; from confusion to clarity.  Juan Miguel sees a more personal view of it.  I know what I want to be and thats better.  The quest is to be better; to face wanting to be better.

Inspired by the theme of the homecoming and the dynamic energy of their collab, Quest and Juan Miguel was eloquent on the very essence of home.

Home is not tangible,Quest declares.  It is a personal message to find home; like a note to self.  To find home is to find what makes you feel alive, to solidify what you are as a person.  Juan Miguel says, I know that this collab is a big thing for myself, but it is also bigger than myself.  We need to push boundaries.  What I want to express is to let everyone know that their journey, their story is valid.  I want to give them hope.

Watch how Quest and Juan Miguel Severo collaborate for a refreshing kind of music that celebrates their own genres in the second episode of Coke Studio. Catch it every Sunday at 11:15a.m. before ASAP on ABS-CBN or on www.youtube.com/CokeStudioPH.

FOUR LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES STARTUP ENTREPRENEURS MUST KNOW

The road to business success is one that can be lonely and dreary. The unrelenting passion of entrepreneurs and startup CEOs, while initially beneficial for the organization, can soon become a deterrent to the growth of the business and even its people. And with their current knowledge and skillset, it is inevitable for any startup entrepreneur to seek help in developing and running the business.

According to the world’s leading executive coach and best-selling author, Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, the organizational dysfunction starts when the leader makes all the decisions and everyone else merely accepts them. As much as it is not enabling and maximizing the full potential of the employees, it is also extremely taxing on the top honcho. But that shouldn’t be the case, according to Dr. Goldsmith.

Having trained a number of corporate leaders across the globe, Dr. Goldsmith believes there are certain leadership principles that entrepreneurial leaders and start-up CEOs must adopt for self-improvement and re-assessment towards creating a positive impact on an organization.

1) Develop an exit strategy. “It is a good exercise to take and think of what you would want to achieve before you exit,” said Dr. Goldsmith. Drawing small and big finish lines helps diffuse the pressure of success, especially for startup businesses. By celebrating both small and milestone wins, it motivates the individual to continue to reach for the bigger goal without just banking on the big one.

2) Be a great client. “30 years ago, no CEO would have admitted wanting or needing to be coached. Coaching has come out of the closet and is something that people are no longer ashamed of,” said Dr. Goldsmith. It is important to understand that through coaching, entrepreneurial leaders are receiving mentoring which is hard to come by in the nature of the business. In the process, they are also creating a learning environment for themselves and their people.

3) Don’t get lost in logic. “A lot of your suggestions are going to become orders even if you didn’t want them to. I really have to caution people about saying ‘have you thought of this?’ or ‘have you tried that?’ because once you start saying that, they just salute the flag and do it your way,” said. Dr. Goldsmith. He added that success is now defined as how much you can empower others and not how much you can do yourself.

4) I know less than you do. Most startup businesses are created with intense passion from its founders – knowing the ins and outs of the business more than anyone else. However, as the business starts to grow, the game also changes as more people are hired who know more how to navigate the business landscape. When someone knows more than you do, it’s OK – that’s what the organization is for, it is about being able to lean on each other and working towards the same goals. “You can’t tell a knowledge worker what to do, you have to ask them what to do,” said Dr. Goldsmith.

Dr. Marshall Goldsmith will headline a two-city CEO, HR, and Senior Leaders conference in Asia this October, with Manila as his last stop on October 26, 2018. He will be joined by top coaching gun Dr. Peter Chee, and master trainer and chief coach Serely Alcaraz. The leadership conference is organized by ITD, the global leadership development expert. For more information and registration, call ITD World Philippines at +632 887 7428 or email at itdmanila@itd world.com.

STARBUCKS ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION 2018

Ever since Starbucks opened its doors in 1971, the Siren has been the brand’s enduring logo that invites customers inside its stores across the world. Today, even as the smiling Starbucks barista hands over your handcrafted beverage, you see the iconic image at the center of the cup, a symbol that promises not just great coffee but also great moments of connection.

Taken from a Norse woodcut from an old maritime book, the two-tailed siren pays homage to the seafaring history of Seattle as a port city and the journey of coffee itself, which until now is often being transported across the seas.

This September, Starbucks reimagines the biggest symbol of its brand with the release of its limited-edition Anniversary Collection. Themed the “Celestial Beauty of the Undersea”, the artwork has ethereal qualities with the siren swimming in a sea of stars.

As for its Anniversary Blend which started in 1996 to commemorate its 25th year, Starbucks celebrates its legacy of coffee roasting, blending expertise and craftsmanship with a bold fusion of aged Sumatra, Papua New Guinea and Indonesian coffees blended together and roasted. The result is a complex and full-bodied cup with spicy and earthy flavors that surprises with each sip. Available in whole bean and VIA® format.

Along with the Anniversary Blend is the special Anniversary Collection which includes a wide array of merchandise catered to varied tastes. As part of its celestial theme, the line features a palette of cool shades of blue and white with hints of copper. The Siren artwork engages customers with its playful and alluring deep-sea elements, and provides a layer of whimsy to the collection.

Another tribute to the mythical sea creature is the limited edition Anniversary Blend Card that features the siren’s blue-green tail with copper gold detailing that comes with a minimum activation of 500.

Through the years, the siren has continuously transformed along with Starbucks growing global community. When the company revamped itself into a coffeehouse in 1987, its muse was colored an emerald green and given a more contemporary look.  In 1992, the logo was zoomed in on the siren, focusing on her wavy locks and warm smile with just hints of her two tails. Eventually, 2011 ushered the biggest change yet as the siren broke away from her circle and became the icon that we all know today. Now, she remains the welcoming face of Starbucks, pulling in coffee-lovers with her enigmatic smile.

STARBUCKS NEW COFFEE-FORWARD BEVERAGES

Starbucks has an extra ingredient in each cup of coffee – passion. Coffee and passion fuel everything they do, from the way they ethically source their whole beans, to how they carefully handcraft innovative beverages, to ensure artistry and quality are tasted in every sip. This has been the promise of Starbucks and what has propelled them to be at the forefront of coffee development over the years.

Available starting September 11 for a limited time only, Starbucks is introducing three new coffee-forward beverages.

Using all the elements of coffee from the bean down to the husk, Starbucks introduces a refreshing take on the classic cold brew – the Cascara Cold Foam Cold Brew. Cascara, more commonly known as the husk of the coffee cherry, adds a unique boost to this revitalizing cold beverage with its complex and slightly sweet flavor.  A fusion of flavors and textures, the cold brew is topped with a smooth layer of cold foam made from low-fat milk and cascara syrup and has hints of brown sugar and maple derived from the combination of the cherry and black coffee.

A new addition to the Starbucks menu of espresso beverages is the Flat White. Carefully crafted with bold ristretto shots and a thin layer of velvety steamed whole milk, the drink is perfectly balanced with sweet notes and is finished with a simple latte art dot.

Those looking for a warm and comforting cup can also try the Caramel Cinnamon Cookie Latte. Available for a limited time only, this latte is topped with fluffy whipped cream, sweet caramel sauce, and cinnamon and crunchy cookie crumbles which add hints of caramel, cinnamon and warm spice to complement its espresso base.

Visit your nearest Starbucks store to witness how Starbucks is crafting the new amazing.
