RCBC MYWALLET ID CARD FOR MAPUA STUDENTS

From meeting new friends to learning new things, students have a lot to look forward to as soon as they enter the university. However, much is also expected from this new generation.

As young adults who will soon help grow the country’s economy, it is important that these individuals are educated, empowered, and financially literate. And taking the lead to begin their financial journey, RCBC ties up with Mapúa University to introduce a dual purpose MyWallet–Mapúa ID to all its freshmen students for the upcoming academic year.

The Yuchengco-led bank innovates the typical school ID to double as a prepaid card that students can use to pay for everyday necessities and for transactions inside or outside of Mapúa. This new system will pave the way for both RCBC and the university to build a digital ecosystem that includes the students.

“A big part of the unbanked and underserved market are the college students who do not have their own bank accounts or who are not yet qualified to get their own payment cards. We want to change that and teach them money management and good financial habits, starting with the RCBC MyWallet–Mapúa ID card,” said Margarita Lopez, Digital Banking Group head.

The RCBC MyWallet-Mapúa ID card both serves as the students’ admission to the school’s premises as it contains their identification details and as a prepaid card which can be used to pay for their tuition and other school-related purchases. The card also provides parents a more secure way to transfer their child’s allowances; and a means for students to store and build their savings. 

Other students can also enjoy the benefits of a MyWallet Visa Prepaid Card. They simply need to go to any RCBC branch nationwide and fill-out the enrollment form, present a valid ID, and pay a P150 fee to start enjoying the convenience of cashless transactions in their school, online shopping and 24/7 online access via RCBC Online Banking.

LG HONORS THE INJURED LIBERATORS OF MARAWI ON NATIONAL HEROES DAY

In the spirit of National Heroes Day, LG Electronics reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to providing assistance to the community with a donation-in-kind to the Victoriano Luna Medical Center (VLMC), a government hospital that provides sanctuary and support to injured soldiers, including those who suffered casualties in the Marawi siege. 

In a simple ceremony held on August 29 at the AFP Health Service Command, Mr. Inkwun Heo, Managing Director of LG Philippines, handed over ten (10) 1.5 HP Dual Cool Inverter Split Type Air Purifying Deluxe Airconditioners, two (2) 13kg Inverter Top Load Washing Machines, one (1) 24 cu ft Side by Side Refrigerator and ten (10) 43" Smart TVs to Col. Jeffrey Jake Gallenero, Philippine Army MNSA, Chief of Staff, AFP Health Service Command (AFPHSC). Also present were the chiefs of each operating unit and staff of the AFP Health Service Command.

The project was initiated to ease the recovery of the valiant soldiers at the Orthopedic Heroes Ward who sustained injuries in Marawi and other military efforts. Each airconditioner features an independently working Air Purification mode, assuring that the air the patients breathe is clean even when the unit is switched off, and never stale. LG airconditioners also operate at low sound levels to provide better rest and uninterrupted sleep for these wounded soldiers. Along with the Smart TVs, these airconditioning units will bring comfort to patients and their families at the wards, Officers’ Room, and Isolation and Post-recovery rooms. 

Aside from the patients at the Orthopedic Heroes Ward, the hospital staff will also benefit from LG’s donation of washing machines and a refrigerator, which will be placed at the ward comfort rooms and ward pantry, respectively. The Side by Side Refrigerator has multiple cooling air vents that distribute and circulate cool air to every corner of the refrigerator, ensuring that the staff’s and patients’ food are properly cooled and remain fresh, while the 13kg Inverter Top Load Washing Machines have a Turbo Drum feature that enables the most powerful wash and the removal of the toughest hospital stains.

The airconditioners, washing machines and refrigerator are all equipped with the latest inverter technology, ensuring that the medical center enjoys bigger energy savings but with more efficient appliances.

Earlier this year, LG donated health kits, comprised of roughly 30,000 personal care products, and 200 computer monitors to 46 public schools in Marawi. These initiatives are part of the company’s goals of promoting products and services that serve the local community. Through its CSR projects, LG will continue to serve the Filipino people by developing—and sharing—technology that cares. 

SIKAT PINOY NATIONAL TRADE FAIR 2018

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair will be held from August 22 to 26 at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Since it was first launched as the brand for national domestic trade fairs in 2013, the yearly stagings of Sikat Pinoy fairs have gained a loyal following among Metro Manila consumers as well as institutional buyers who eagerly look forward to discovering the best products from the regions.

In the five-year period from 2013 to 2017, the Sikat Pinoy fairs have attracted nearly half-a-million visitors and generated almost P400 million in retail sales as well as booked and negotiated orders.

Sustaining the renewed focus on the One Town, One Product (OTOP) priority stimulus program, the 2018 edition of the Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair will showcase OTOP Next Generation products such as gifts, houseware and decor, fashion accessories and wearables, furniture, specialty food, and health and wellness products. Highlighting the products of about 250 MSMEs representing the best products from 16 regions of the country, these will be offered for retail sales to consumers and will also be available for order-taking from institutional and corporate buyers.

Green, organic, eco-friendly, fair trade compliant, and halal-certified products will also be given their own special area, in response to the growing demand for sustainable consumer products.

 To serve the needs of MSMEs to access reliable sources of good quality and affordable materials, a section will be devoted to supply chain solutions featuring: (1) raw materials such as yarns, threads, buttons, dyes, zippers, fibers and textiles; (2) intermediate goods like packaging materials, boxes, baskets, ribbons, straws, etc.; and (3) equipment and tools to improve productivity.

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair is organized by the Department of Trade and Industry through the Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) in cooperation with the DTI’s Regional and Provincial Offices. It is one of the key programs to promote efficient marketing and distribution of local products and services; to expand and strengthen linkages among MSMEs through information exchanges and market matching; and to create awareness of domestic marketing opportunities for new projects, new technologies, and investments.

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair is open during mall hours from August 22 to 26. Admission is free.

PETRON LAKBAY ALALAY FOR NATIONAL HEROES DAY WEEKEND

The country honors our heroes with a public holiday every last Monday of August which, for this year, falls on August 27. This long weekend is a welcome break for urban dwellers, and presents an opportunity to take a quick road trip to nearby holiday destinations.
