BDJ RENDEZVOUS: WOMEN IN ACTION



In its continued commitment to encourage women to reach their productivity goals,  Viviamo! Inc., makers of the Belle de Jour Power Planner and Navi: Your Life Navigator Journal, recently concluded its first BDJ Rendezvous for the year entitled ‘Women in Action’’.



BDJ Rendezvous is the community’s on-ground effort to connect and inspire Bellas through a series of inspiring talks and sessions. For this year, Women in Action aimed to help women to be productive, purposeful and active during summer and beyond.


Hosted by vlogger and professional makeup artist Genzel Habab, the event brought together women from different ages in an afternoon of fun and learning at the 2nd level of The Podium. Guests were treated to  four engaging talks from distinct individuals who shared their knowledge and expertise about health, wellness, and creative hobbies that they can pursue.

Calligrapher Nicole Sanchez shared her humble beginnings, inspirations, and taught the basics of Calligraphy. Bellas were provided with starter brush pens and worksheets where they tried their hand in calligraphy. Patricia Mirasol, on the other hand, stressed the importance of changing one’s mindset to achieve his/her health and fitness goals.


Business and fitness enthusiast Carla Piscoso related how she once battled with insecurities and low self-esteem back then. She then encouraged Bellas that in order to feel confident about how they look and feel, they should first start with themselves. “It all starts with you,”shared Patricia Mirasol. “The first person that can help you feel and look good is yourself. When you look in the mirror, don’t pinpoint your flaws. Look at yourself and say I am beautiful.”


Lastly, photographer and makeup artist Gorvachev Bernardo discussed about his tips and techniques about basic photography, photo editing and ways to achieve visually appealing photos using a smartphone. Bellas learned that in order to achieve feed goals, they should not overly edit their photos and refrain from zooming in to retain the photos’ quality.

Apart from the series of talks, bellas also enjoyed games that challenged their creativity, collaboration and communication. They were also given a great deal of prizes from both the raffles and games.

PETRON TURBO DIESEL FIELD TEST DELIVERS OUTSTANDING RESULTS


As a fuel innovator, industry leader Petron Corporation is continuously looking for ways to provide Filipino motorists with the best possible products in the market. Having achieved recognition as the best gasoline in the country for its Petron Blaze 100 Euro 6, the company’s R&D team recently enhanced the formulation of its premium Petron Turbo Diesel to be the best diesel in the Philippines. Thus, last January, the Petron TriAction Performance Run – Diesel Edition took off from Manila to Baguio for a week-long series of tests on challenging mountain roads from Baguio to Ambuklao, and then from Baguio to Halsema, the highest elevation in the Philippine highway system, before finishing with a fuel economy run from Baguio back to Manila.








Outstanding Performance Across Vehicle Types

Faced with the challenge of measuring improvements in engine power, engine response, and acceleration, test drivers were asked to rate the performance of different diesel fuels in a stringent double blind procedure. Using a different diesel fuel each day for four days, the drivers drove the same winding, uphill-downhill route from Baguio City to Ambuklao Dam and back. All these while keenly observing whether there was an immediate engine response when going uphill after slowing down on a sharp curve, or if the engine does not feel strained when carrying a full load, or if the vehicle is able to accelerate smoothly even on long uphill climbs.



To ensure that Petron Turbo Diesel is able to deliver optimum performance across vehicle types, different vehicle categories and brands were included in the field test. The test vehicles consisted of a BMW X1, a European luxury subcompact crossover; a Toyota Innova, the market leading utility vehicle; a Honda CR-V Diesel, the 2017 Car of the Year-Philippines; a Nissan Urvan, a popular people-mover; a Ford Everest and Ford Ranger to represent the American brand; Isuzu mu-X and Isuzu D-MAX for the leader in commercial vehicles; and a Ssangyong Tivoli XLV, a Korean SUV model.

When asked to rank the test fuels—designated only by letter codes—in the daily runs, the consolidated results indicated that Petron Turbo Diesel was rated by the drivers as delivering the best performance in terms of power, engine response, and acceleration.

Improved Fuel Economy

Following the test protocol of the Department of Energy (DOE) Fuel Economy Run, the vehicles traversed some 230.7-kilometers from the Petron station on Kisad Road, Baguio City, going through the relatively busy Marcos Highway, then on to the Tarlac-Pangasian-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), ending at Petron NLEX Southbound in Bocaue, Bulacan.

All vehicles delivered outstanding results, averaging 20% better than the official Fuel Efficiency Ratings (FER) posted in the 2017 DOE Fuel Economy Run. For example, the BMW X1 achieved 34.08km/L, which is 43% better than the 23.88km/L recorded in the DOE Run. The Honda CR-V’s fuel consumption improved by 19% to 28.52km/L from 23.96km/L. The fuel efficiency results were similarly impressive for the other vehicles, as follows: Ford Everest – 27.21km/L; Toyota Innova – 23.4km/L; Ssangyong Tivoli XLV – 22.6km/L; Isuzu mu-X – 19.97km/L; Isuzu D=MAX – 18.44km/L; Nissan Urvan – 17.22km/L; and Ford Ranger – 17.08km/L.

The Petron TriAction Performance Run – Diesel Edition was observed and certified by representatives from Department of Energy (DOE), Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), and the Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI).

STARBUCKS LAUNCHES MOBILE APP IN THE PHILIPPINES


Starbucks Philippines today announced the expansion of the company’s industry-leading digital ecosystem with the launch of the Starbucks PH® App, a mobile app providing a fast and convenient payment method for customers at more than 300 stores across the market.


The first coffee retailer to offer this innovation in the Philippines, the Starbucks® PH App integrates the popular Starbucks Card payment method and My Starbucks Rewards® on customers’ mobile devices.

Extending the Third Place
A feature called “Shake to Pay” allows customers to shake their phones to bring up a barcode within the app that can be scanned to pay and redeem. The app is linked to their My Starbucks Rewards® account so balances are automatically updated whenever the app is used.

The Starbucks® PH App keeps customers in the loop, making sure they are the first to know the newest product offerings and promos.  Customers are notified whenever new messages are received on the app. Starbucks® PH App users are also in for a treat as they receive special offers and event invitations straight into their app inboxes. IVO WATER PURIFIER ASSURES WATER QUALITY

Owning a purifier, directly attached to the tap, saves a family or office so many pesos a month, ensures their security from strangers, assures water quality that is of the highest purity standard and spares the home or office precious space, otherwise used for storing 5-gallon containers and operating water dispensers. Also, your drinking water would no longer have to be handled and delivered by a third party whose compliance to health and sanitation is hugely unknown. 


One great advantage is that for the environment. Consumers don’t need to buy and throw away water PET bottles, thereby reducing household wastes that otherwise go to the landfills or oceans.

Water purifiers are gaining traction in the local market because of these advantages, plus the fact that there is a wide array of brands and origins to choose from.

A wholly-Japanese technology faucet-mounted water purifier—introduced two years ago in the Philippine market under the original brand name of Torayvino (produced by Toray Industries of Japan, the leader of faucet-mounted water purifiers in the highly-discriminating Japanese market)—is being re-launched in the country this April. 


The re-launch is more of a marketing strategy for the Philippine market to make the name more relatable and have an easier recall. Hence, it is being re-branded as IVO (short for Innovation and Evolution).

Important to stress here is that in just two years, Moduvi Inc., the exclusive distributor of Torayvino in the country, has earned the full trust and confidence of Toray Japan when it was allowed to change the name of Torayvino to IVO for the Philippines.

Torayvino is the dominant water purifier in the Japanese market with easily 66 percent of that market pie. Worldwide, Torayvino has already sold over 1 billion units of these water purifiers.

Toray Industries of Japan was founded in 1926 and has consolidated sales of more than 2 trillion yen and employees of over 45,000 worldwide. Its businesses are in fiber and textiles (those used by Uniqlo’s Airism and Heattech lines), plastics and chemicals, IT-related products, carbon fiber composite materials (like those used in aircrafts), environment and engineering, and life science (such as hollow fiber membrane filters used in Toray’s dialysis machines, artificial kidneys, and Torayvino water purifiers).

The 0.1 micron filtration of Torayvino, or IVO in the Philippines, ensures 99.99 percent bacteria-free water without unduly sacrificing water flow or pressure. The filter is able to remove disease causing microorganisms in water—such as Amoeba, Salmonella Typhi (Typhoid Fever), Vibrio Cholerae (Cholera), E. Coli—up to the 0.1 micron unit.

It also removes residual chlorine, harmful chemicals, bad odor, rust, sand, sediments, and other impurities.

IVO has three selections: filtered spray (for drinking); unfiltered spray (recommended for washing vegetables and dishes) and unfiltered straight (for other regular kitchen activities). The unfiltered spray also gives you 30% water savings because it has more area coverage than unfiltered straight which is perfect for washing your dishes.

IVO filters are easy to install (no plumbing required) and eco-friendly (no electricity needed).

Moduvi’s General Manager Donna Yan said the company is bringing IVO to North America and other Asian countries.

Yan said Moduvi will continue in aggressively promoting IVO filtration systems in condominiums, where space is limited and water delivery can be time-consuming and troublesome. This is apart from its marketing tie-up with O Shopping (TV) and outlets of True Value and All Home.

A filtration unit costs P1,980 with a cartridge that has a capacity of 1,500 liters or about 79 pieces of 5- gallon containers. A typical family of 3 to 5, with an average consumption of 15L per day, can use the filter for three months.
