TFC GETS 2nd ANVIL AWARD FOR ITS OVERSEAS VOTING CAMPAIGN, WINS GOLD FOR #VOTE4ASELFIEWORTHYPH

After a history-making voter registration and turnout for the 2016 Presidential elections, the Philippine overseas voting (OV) celebrates another milestone as The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) #Vote4ASelfieWorthyPH earned the network its second Anvil Award for a campaign with the goal of propagating the overseas Filipinos’ (OF) right of suffrage.
TFC’s campaign #Vote4ASelfieWorthyPH earned a Gold Anvil this time, from the 52nd Anvil Awards for its exemplary performance under the category PR program Directed at Specific Stakeholders, External Consumers, Communities, Special Interest /Advocacy Groups, during the formal rites held recently at the Makati ShangriLa Ballroom in Makati City, Philippines. TFC first earned a Silver Anvil for the 2012-2013 OV campaign dubbed “Boto Mo, Kinabukasan ng Bawat Pilipino.”

According to outgoing Public Relations of the Philippines (PRSP) President Ronald Jabal, APR, “An Anvil Award is a much-coveted recognition. It’s not just a mark of excellence but also a manifestation of a good deed done.”  He adds: “An Anvil Award is not just a trophy to brag about but also a metal of gratitude – a deep sense of thanks to people who have allowed us to shine. An Anvil Award is not just a badge of honor but also a breadth of life to communities we take care of.”

TFC’s overseas voting campaign, a fruition of the network’s partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs Overseas Voting Secretariat (DFA - OVS) and Commission on Elections Office for Overseas Voting (COMELEC OFOV), was created with the objective of supporting the government partners’ campaign to increase the registration in 2015 and voter turnout in 2016.
The campaign was articulated as #VoteforASelfieWorthyPH because it harnessed the power of the social media phenomenon selfie to paint a more realistic picture of the Philippines and tells how, with the OF vote, we can all create a better homeland that can be deemed worthy of a selfie.

According to ABS-CBN Global Head of Corporate Affairs & PR Nerissa Fernandez, the campaign has long been part of TFC’s public service.  Fernandez says: “Since the registration and national elections in 2012 and 2013, TFC has been partners with DFA – OVS and COMELEC OFOV and we continued this tie-up for the 2015 registration and the 2016 Presidential elections because we believe that the overseas Filipino vote could positively impact the Philippine electoral landscape.”

Fernandez explains: “#Vote4ASelfieWorthyPH recognizes the OF voters and their major role as catalysts for meaningful change.  The Anvil Award award validates the importance of the work and passion that our team puts into inspiring our kababayans with the help of other Kapamilya teams and stars.

The campaign bagged a Gold award from among four hundred two entries in eight categories adjudged winner by a board of 33 jurors from the public and private sectors that include top executives from the PR industry and government officials including Accredited Public Relations (APR) professionals and Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Department of Social Welfare and Development Judy Taguiwalo.

Anvil Awards Committee Chairman Rochelle Gamboa said the winners were chosen based on a stringent judging process that recognized the entries for their rhyme, reason and results.  Gamboa expounds: “Rhyme for concept and execution; reason for the profound purpose and communication and objectives and how they were achieved; resonating results for the impact that these programs and tools have made on the target stakeholders.”

For the #Vote4ASelfieWorthyPH campaign, the results came concretely in the form of the total turnout during and right after the campaign.  According to COMELEC OFOV Chairman Atty. and Commissioner Arthur Lim: “Quantitatively, compared with the total registered voters prior to the commencement of the agreement with ABS-CBN and TFC, the total registered overseas voters was 815,307.  However, after August 26, 2015, the volume of applicants steadily increased and at the end of the information campaign conducted by the office and its partners the registered voters became 1,376,067 or gained an increase of 46.39%.”  He adds: “As to voter turnout in the 2013 national elections, it was 118,823 while in 2016 voter turnout was 430,695 or a 27.59% increase.”

According to DFA OVS Vice Chairman Edgardo Castro the agency may have had other media partners to count on to propagate the campaign but TFC has the widest global coverage.  He says: “TFC is an invaluable partner of the DFA-OVS in its campaign to implement the OV Act. TFC's consistent coverage of OV events has gone a long way in making the public aware of the importance of politically empowering the overseas Filipino.”
OV registration is ongoing and will commence in September 2018.  All qualified Filipino citizens who expect to be abroad during the OV period for the 2019 elections from April 13 to May 13 may register at all Philippine Foreign Service posts including three Manila Economic and Cultural Offices (MECO) in Taiwan and Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Al Khobar.  For more information visit www.dfa-oavs.gov.ph or www.comelec.gov.ph

#VoteforASelfieWorthyPH is one of three entries from ABS-CBN Corporation that earned a Gold, one of them being Digital Terrestrial Service’s ABS-CBN TVplus and the other being Digital Media Division’s OTWOLISTA.com.  Silver awardees include internal communications campaign “Kapamilya Hottie: The Search for the Next Kapamilya Fitness Ambassadors” and Digital Media Divison’s Turning Tweets into Cheers.”  Meantime Sky Cable Corporation bagged the Gawad Jose Carpio Excellence in Reputation and Brand Building Management.

Receiving the award on behalf of Fernandez are GCA and PR Associate Marianne Ferrer de Vera and PR Specialist Jocelyn Jimenez; and campaign partners Commissioner Lim and DFA OVS Vice Chairman Edgardo Castro with one of the campaign endorsers and Bantay Bata Program Director Jing CastaƱeda.  Also in attendance was the internal ad agency team of ABS-CBN Global, the Marketing Communications department represented by Creative Director Jay Santiago, Visual Designer Jennifer Pacubas, Producer Maureen Paril, and Copy Group Head Charles Aaron Bautista.

SMART SUSTAINS GROWTH IN MOBILE DATA BUSINESS

PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications has posted sustained growth in its mobile data business, with revenues up by 26 percent to P25.5 billion in 2016 from only P20.2 billion previously.

Mobile Internet revenues set the pace, rising 42 percent year-on-year to P17 billion.

The availability of more affordable smartphones in the market, attractive data offers bundled with popular digital content and services, and an upgraded mobile data network have helped Smart meet the growing demands of subscribers for data services.

Data revenues accounted for a third of the wireless business’ revenue mix last year, from only a quarter in 2015. For the first time, it has edged out voice calls and text messaging as the largest revenue source for the wireless business

Meantime, mobile data usage improved to 148,000 terabytes last year, 49 percent higher than the 2015 figure.

To support the rapidly increasing data traffic, Smart has accelerated its roll out of LTE and 3G data networks under a three-year program that includes the use of low-band frequencies such as 700 Mhz for high-speed LTE services.

This network roll-out program has been completed in Metro Davao where Smart subscribers now consistently enjoy average data download speeds of over 20 Mbps. The LTE upgrade is now underway in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, where similar dramatic improvements in data speeds are being experienced in areas where new LTE facilities have already been installed.

Even higher data speeds of 80 to 90 Mbps have been registered in selected areas where LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) facilities have been activated. LTE-A can deliver higher data rates by combining two or more frequency bands using carrier aggregation technology.

By the end of 2016, about half of Smart’s 63-million subscribers already own smartphones.

To speed up the adoption of LTE handsets, Smart has struck exclusive bundling deals with popular device makers including Oppo, O+ USA, MyPhone, and Starmobile last year and these come with free data allocation for every topup.

In its latest handset offer, Smart recently launched O+ Presto 700 LTE at P2,188 bundled with P300 load (includes 100MB of data per month for one year).

These phones can be used with affordable data packages such as Giga Surf 50, the country’s first 1GB data offer for only P50.

Smart also continues to expand its content portfolio to make it relevant to more customers. In its newest content offer, Smart along with PLDT and Cignal has partnered with global entertainment leader Fox to offer its subscribers exclusive Fox+, an app that provides access to over 11,000 hours of high-definition TV and movie content from Fox. Users can view the latest episodes of popular TV series like Homeland and The Walking Dead as soon as these are aired in the United States.

This adds to the growing library of popular video content assembled by Smart and PLDT through partnerships with iflix, Netflix, Cignal and ABS CBN’s iWantTV.

Industry leader Petron Corporation recently signed a partnership with the leading ride-sharing platform Grab, to offer exclusive benefits to Grab drivers and employees through its Grab-branded Petron Value Card.

Forming part of the benefits that Grab drivers enjoy when they sign up with Grab, the PVC cards will be given free to all Grab vehicles, except Grab Taxi. With their Petron Value Card, Grab drivers earn peso-points every time they fill up with Petron fuels—Petron Blaze 100, XCS, Xtra Advance, Turbo Diesel, and Diesel Max. Peso points earned can be redeemed for Petron products at over 2,000 Petron stations nationwide. These can also be converted to cellphone load, air miles, groceries, movies, and other options.

Other ways to earn more points are through the Frequent Visit promo where the PVC cardholder gets additional points on every 5th visit to a Petron station, and the Birthday Promo that awards bonus points when the Grab driver gases up within five days of his birthday.

Petron takes care of its loyal customers, and Grab drivers can enjoy the following benefits —subject to terms and conditions—through their Petron Value Card: free 24/7 towing and roadside assistance, free personal accident insurance coverage of PHP 10,000 for accidental death and PHP 1,000 medical reimbursement, and privileges at partner establishments.

The Petron Value Card mobile app, available for iOS and Android smartphones, provides the transaction history and points summary, as well as access to the various promos, rewards and benefits.

Beyond the perks and privileges they will enjoy as PVC cardholders, Grab drivers have the assurance that Petron fuels and engine oils are of world-class quality, thus offering savings not just through fuel efficiency, but by reducing maintenance costs through better engine protection.

According to Grab Philippines country head Brian Cu, “Our goal has always been to take care of our Peers and drivers, and we want to stretch their income in any way we can. We are positive that this partnership with Petron will give our drivers more flexibility in their expenses.” He points out that the tie-up will not only expand the drivers’ income but also benefit their families.

Grab will handle distribution of the co-branded Grab-Petron Value Card, which can be claimed at the following locations: Libis, Araneta-Cubao, Fisher Mall, Manila, Imus, and Metro East. For more information visit Grab Philippines’ Facebook page or visit their website www.grab.com.
