Building Impact Together: Housing solutions through advocacy, engagement, and awareness

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Asia-Pacific Housing Forum 5 (APHF5), organized by Habitat for Humanity (HFH), is a biennial conference that brings together local communities, socio-civic organizations, the private sector and the government in seeking to provide solutions to the problem of housing accessibility.

This is the first time APHF5 will be holding a satellite event on September 3-4 at The Manila Hotel. This event is in alignment with the main conference in Hong Kong. The Philippines’ theme “Building Impact” focuses on advocacy for housing subsidies, putting into action the organization’s mission of bringing people together to build homes and communities.

All of Me is a story of a 50 years old doctor named Manuel who defies time just to be with his one and only beloved wife, even if he transforms back to his younger self. Will he won the battle of belongingness?or will he succeed to gain the trust and love of his wife? or will he lost and accept the situation?

Starring the actor JM De Guzman as the young Manuel/Edong and Albert Martinez as the 50 y.o. Manuel together with Yen Santos as Lena and Aaron Villaflor as Henry. This is directed by Dondon Santos.

I saw the two-week episode of the newest teleserye and I find it very promising serye, from the shots, actors and story. I really like the story because it isn't the usual or predictable one. I love how the serye introduce each and every character specially the main cast, Manuel.

From Pure Love to Oh My G, now in All Of Me, you will continue to love Yen as Lena this time. Like me, I witnessed how Yen develop as a mature actress even in an immature role like Lena. She's acting so natural and simultaneous, even her scenes with the veteran actor Albert Martinez.

Electricity rates go down this month of August

Meralco announced that after three consecutive months of reduction, the overall rates for its residential customers this August went down by PhP 0.26 per kWh. This brings the total reduction to PhP 1.56 per kWh over the past four months. This month’s reduction also marks the sixth time this year that rates have gone down. In the photo, Meralco Public Information Office Head Joe Zaldarriaga explains that the reduction in the overall rates was primarily due to a decrease in the generation charge.

Two of the country's top senators take pride and give all their support to the much-awaited match between the Philippines and Uzbekistan for the annual World Cup qualifying match on September 8 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan. 

Evident on the social media accounts of the Senators Sonny Angara and Pia Cayetano, they both have interest in the forthcoming match, especially the latter which calls on fans to support the Philippine national football team on September 8.

“Let’s support our Azkals in the World Cup qualifiers, esp in their hometown matches!” Cayetano tweeted to her 401,900 followers and attached a link to a Philippine Star article.

On the other hand, Angara tweeted to his over 70,000 followers “#azkals gearing up for #WorldCupQualifiers on #sept8 at the #philstadium.”

Moreover,the mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Fil-Am Brandon Vera also tweeted to urge fans to support the Azkals and watch the game on September 8.

Dan Palami, Philippine Azkals team manager, expressed appreciation over the support being given by well-known personalities to the national football team.

“The Azkals need all the support not only from football fans but also from well-meaning citizens to motivate them to give their best when they face a tough Uzbeks team,” he said.

The Azkals have won their first two World Cup qualifying matches against Bahrain, 2-1, and Yemen, 2-0. They are eyeing a third win against Uzbekistan but Palami has acknowledged that the Uzbeks are a formidable opponent.

The Uzbeks are the top seed in Group H where the Philippines is bracketed but they lost to the North Koreans last June 16.

Uzbekistan ranks 75^th, the highest ranked team in the group, while the Philippines is ranked 125^th, its highest place in the history of the FIFA rankings.

I once read these phrases and I always remember them when I am buying a pair of shoes. I know that shoes will always take me to numerous places and will witness the opportunities ahead of me. That's what happened Mr. Kean Cipriano of Callalily, one of the global brand ambassadors of Converse.

Cipriano had his first ever Converse Chuck shoes when he was in high school, which he bought with money saved from his daily allowance. And when he had that first pair of Converse shoes , he felt he can travel the whole world and do anything.True enough, because he performs with the band called Callalily and has become a global brand ambassador of his favorite type and brand of shoes, Cipriano is living his dream.

Recently, he went to Shanghai, China (July 27) with Ms. Julie Ann San Jose and Georgina Wilson, to meet the rest of the global brand ambassadors of Converse. They joined the Shanghai Artmob and wore white hazmat suits, combined with goggles and masks as protective gear because they have to shoot green and black paint using fire extinguishers and throw paint-filled water balloons.

Their visit to Shanghai was all the more exciting, especially for Cipriano, because it was the first time in which the newest Converse Chuck All Star II was revealed. The cool four colors (blue, red, white and black) make them more breathtaking and the Lunarlon sole cushion makes them more comfortable.

"Ang saya lang ng nakikita mo yung mga kapwa global brand ambassadors mo from other countries, tapos gagawa kayo ng Artmob, which ni-launch din yung Chuck Taylor II, actually parang naglaro lang kami nila Julie Ann eh, kasi nanuod lang kami ng banda ang galing nung banda, tapos nakakatuwa kasi nagsama-sama lahat ng global ambassadors tapos hawak-hawak namin yung flag ng Converse and kanya-kanyang flag ng bawat bansa. It's really nice to be part of this whole thing." Cipriano said.

Piolo Pascual and Rhian Ramos for Silong, A closing film in Cinemalaya 2015

Silong (Shelter) is the first film that Piolo Pascual and Rhian Ramos made together. It is set to close this year's Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition today, August 14, at the Cultural center of the Philippines (CCP).

Directed by Jeffrey Hidalgo and Roy Sevilla Ho, the film is about a doctor who found a bloodied woman on the road, seeking for help and shelter. Eventually, the doctor finds out that she has a dark past that hunts her everywhere she goes. Complicated twists and turns are slowly revealed in the film when they start to know each other better.

I had a chance to watch the movie at the recent press screening at My Cinemas, Greenbelt 3.Together with the press members, co-bloggers, cast, and directors of the movie, we watched this skillfully-woven thriller.

Except for those involved in the making of the film, we were all definitely shocked when the last revelation was unveiled. I literally felt numb and had goosebumps when i saw what unfolded onscreen. Goodness, what if there is something like that really happening in real life?

Go watch this mystery-thriller and let's see how you will feel too. I am warning you, this is not the usual run-of-the mill predictable movie like other thrillers out there. The directors executed every important aspect of the film flawlessly,if i may say. You cannot dare to take your eyes off screen or else, you just might miss some important details which gives a clue to the conclusion of the film.

As to the actors, I think Piolo and Rhian have a chemistry on and off screen. As Piolo shared in an interview "napakadaling katrabaho ni Rhian, walang kaarte arte sa katawan, napakagaan nya katrabaho."

On the big screen, Rhian looks extra classy and exudes sexiness in this film. Though she's got bruises and all, she still looks ravishing. Watch out for that part when she rapped in one scene (galing!!!). The directors revealed that Rhian herself did or suggested that part. Well done!

I think this film deserves not only as a closing film for Cinemalaya 2015, but also as a film that should be appreciated by mainstream movie buffs.

I think the number of quality Filipino films is increasing more each day. Hurray!
