A fun-filled day volunteering with Starbucks Philippines and Teach for the Philippines team

Last Saturday, I had the chance to join and volunteer for the Starbucks Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Teach For The Philippines activity at Malaban Elementary School in Binan, Laguna. The activity aims to help and prepare the school's equipment and facilities, much like Brigada Eskwela (of which I am a volunteer also through DepEd) and is usually done a week before the start of the school year.

Teach For The Philippines is a non-profit organization that aims to improve classroom refurbishment in public schools to directly improve the learning environment of the public school students. With the help of private corporations like Starbucks and volunteers, it hopes to continue to build a more developed Philippines through education.

Since I am a sucker for volunteer work and my advocacy is focused on education, i jumped aboard this activity, PRONTO!

Early in the morning, around 6:30AM, a bus picked us up at Starbucks Ayala 6750 branch. We were all geared up with the official shirt and were all excited to help, cooperate, and be productive. About an hour's drive from Makati,we arrived at the venue on the dot and found some of the volunteers already starting to plant trees; painting doors, chairs, murals and blackboards; repairing cabinets, and more.

I was assigned to repair canteen cabinets, together with two of my co-bloggers Mia and Rod. With two volunteer carpenters to assist and guide us, we started working and somehow managed to use basic carpentry tools like electric saw, chisel, planer, and the old reliable hammer. I don't know how many hours it took, but i never knew tha time flies when you are bent on repairing canteen cabinets. I understand now why some guys love carpentry. It's hard work but there is instant gratification when you are able to create something with your hands.

Of course, our stomachs were complaining after all that effort. The Starbucks' Venti Van was there to rescue us, with its array of Starbucks beverages and sandwiches and most importantly, with lots of drinking water to keep all of us hydrated.

I felt very happy and contented when i volunteered for Starbucks CSR and Teach For The Philippines. Like any other volunteering activity that I had before, nothing compares to the satisfaction and happiness that you feel every time you have offered help, donated goods or services. That is especially true when you know you have extended help to the ones who need it the most.

La Cage Aux Folles Manila returns to the RCBC stage from August 15 to September 6

The most fabulous musical, La Cage Aux Folles Manila which brought by the award-winning theater company 9 Works Theatrical, will return to the RCBC stage. Remember that early this year, the musical comedy brings audiences laughing and crying faster than they could say ‘fabulous' (presscon story HERE) and for the second time from August 15 to September 6, La Cage will stage.

Let us once again, follow the story of night club owner Georges, played by TV and film actor Michael de Mesa, and his life partner and the club’s star performer Albin, played by veteran stage actor and PHILSTAGE president Audie Gemora. Staging their life's journey, witness by the streets of Saint Tropez and the French Riviera. Together with their son Jean-Michel, played by TV actor Steven Silva brings home his fiancée Anne, played by Missy Macuja-Elizalde and Joni Galeste and her ultra-conservative parents.

Based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, also the inspiration behind the Robin Williams’ starrer Birdcage, La Cage aux Folles was a musical that Manila audiences wholeheartedly embraced and called their own. “How everything came together,” recalls director Robbie Guevara, “the cast, the 9PO orchestra, the production team – it was like a perfect piece of pie that everyone just gobbled up!” The talent we assembled, executive producer Santi Santamaria adds, gave us constant tearjerkers, “a whirlwind of emotions and contagious enthusiasm from everyone onstage and off.” The amazing audience reception, Robbie recalls fondly, made the sacrifices and hard work well worth it. 

Featuring tap-dancing, energetic musical numbers like We Are What We Are, The Best Of Times, and the anthemic I Am What I Am, and breathtaking costume changes courtesy of scenographer Mio Infante, Twinkle Zamora for costume execution, and the Fashion Designers Association of The Philippines (FDAP), the show promises to up the theatrical ante for its sophomore return, giving audiences both old and new, “a vivid, colorful celebration of theater magic” and a love story that is effervescent as it is timeless.

“For those who have seen and enjoyed the show, this is one musical you may want to consider watching again before it gets restaged after another 20 years,” says Santamaria. “Add that to the uncanny chemistry between acting juggernauts Audie Gemora and Michael de Mesa on stage,” he shares, and you’ve got time in the theater that is time well spent.

Appearing alongside Audie Gemora, Michael de Mesa, Steven Silva and ballerina Joni Galeste are some of today’s most respected and up-and-coming theater performers. Theater veterans Raul Montesa and Sheila Francisco star as Jean-Michel’s ultra conservative in-laws Monsieur and Mademoiselle Edouard and Marie Dindon. Miss Saigon alumna Analin Bantug returns to the stage as restaurant owner Jacqueline while Hong Kong Disneyland performer Noel Rayos plays Jacob the butler.

Joining them are the iconic Les Cagelles played by JP Basco, Mara Celine Javier, Randi de Guzman, Carlos Deriada, Chesko Rodriguez, Dindo Divinagracia, Cheeno Macaraig, James Stacey, Arnold Trinidad, PJ Rebullida, and TV and film star Rafa Siguion-Reyna.

La Cage aux Folles will be directed by Robbie Guevara, with scenic and costume design by Mio Infante, and special participation of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines; choreography by Arnold Trinidad, PJ Rebullida, and Yek Barlongay; musical direction by Joseph Tolentino and Sweet Plantado-Tiongson; lighting design by Martin Esteva; technical direction by Dong Calingacion; hair and makeup design by Myrene Santos; and additional costume execution by Twinkle Zamora; photography by Leo Castillo and graphic design by Larry Palma.

Heading the production team is executive producer Santi Santamaria, with Anna Santamaria as company manager; Toff de Venecia as PR director; GM Hernandez as marketing manager; Jonjon Martin and Issa Tuason as PR managers; Randy Salvador as production manager; and Mikey Garcia as stage manager.

RTL CBS Entertainment's "Under The Dome" Season 3

Piolo Pascual and Sarah Geronimo team-up for the first time in the movie "The Breakup Playlist"

The film "The Breakup Playlist" is the first team-up of the award-winning actor Piolo Pascual and Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo. The movie is under the two biggest production of the country, Star Cinema and Viva Films. 

Early this year, they said that the team-up of Sarah and Piolo will not be pursue due to their busy schedule, but all things are possible and time permits that the two will be a tandem this most anticipated movie of the year.

At the bloggers conference happened at the Ayala Fairview Terraces, the two shared how grateful they are to have each other in this movie. A romantic movie that will not only show their talent in acting but mostly specially in singing.

Though the two see each other every week on ASAP or any other shows, they admitted specially Sarah that it is different if you worked with the award-winning actor like Piolo.

"May magic kasi ang eyes ni Papa P eh, sa tuwing makaka eksena ko talaga sya, napapabitaw talaga ako kasi hindi maaalis yung charm nya talaga eh, iba po kasi talaga" Sarh said. "Sa totoo lang po hirap na hirap ako, actually sa look test palang hirap na ako, sabi ko nga kay direk, pinagpapawisan po talaga ako palagi."

On the other hand, Piolo is equally talented like Sarah but he shared that it is different when making a scene with the Popstar Royalty. 

"I am really blown away, every time na nakikita ko sya, like sa ASAP at sa ibang shows, one thing I discover about her dito sa halos araw-araw naming magkasama sa shooting is that her willingness to explore her craft and giving her best, at nakikita ko na she has so much to offer and she has so much to give." Piolo divulged.

The film is written and directed by the real-life sweethearts, Ms. Tonet Jadaone and Dan Villegas respectively. Direk Dan said that the movie aims to show that there is forgiveness and hope, specially when it come to love.

From 2010, Ryan started his career in Phils. showbiz, It's Showtime host, TV series, movies, music album and the main host of 2014 Studio 23's Kaya Mo Bang:The Fudgee Barr Adventures, which gave him an ample time to appreciate the country. Ryan Bang's "Shopping" music video has recently released on You Tube under Skinny Fat Boy Productions, a production in which he co-owned also together with his dearest friends.

"Shopping" featuring Donnalyn Bartolome is a single that has a music video posted on You Tube, that includes country's great shopping finds. In the music video, Bang admitted that his friends help him to make this video materialized, from his friends in Banana Split like Jayson Gainza, Sunshine Garcia, Aiko Climaco. His real girl friends in the music and entertainment industry like Eric Tai or Eruption, Donnalyn Bartolome, Yam Concepcion, also FHM babes Kristine Santamena and Mayumi Yokoyama. There's more surprises at the end of the video like JaDine's James Reid.

The 39th National MILO Marathon is set to start its 18 regional legs, first in Dagupan City on June 28, 2015. The globally-renowned race event continues to encourage runners from all walks of life. This year, it is expected to have almost 230,000 runners to register and participate to the growing family of MILO.

Runners are looking forward in the new location of the MILO National Finals, which will be held in Angeles, Pampanga on December 6, 2015. This year's new race locations also includes Balanga and Calapan. Bonus prizes will also be given to the first runner who breaks the 2:15:00 invisible time barrier (Php 100,000), the first male runner who breaks the 2:18:53 men’s course record of 5-time MILO Marathon King Eduardo Buenavista (Php 50,000), and the first female runner who breaks the 2:48:00 women’s course record of back-to-back MILO Marathon Queen Mary Joy Tabal (Php 50,000). 

The National MILO Marathon is not only a breeding ground for local talents but also a program that empowers children nationwide. For the past 5 years, the National MILO Marathon’s Help Give Shoes advocacy, in partnership with the Department of Education, has inspired 50,000 aspiring athletes to fulfill their dreams by donating brand new pairs of running shoes. Php 10 from every runner’s registration fee will be allotted to the advocacy. MILO will then match the proceeds and work with the Department of Education to select 10,000 deserving public school student beneficiaries for this year.

Following the pilot race in Dagupan (June 28), the elimination legs will resume in Baguio (July 5), Tarlac (July 12), Balanga (July 19), Manila (July 26), Calapan (August 2), Lipa (August 9), Naga (August 16), Lucena (August 30), Iloilo (September 20), Bacolod (September 27), Tagbilaran (October 4), Cebu (October 11), General Santos (October 18), Davao (November 8), Butuan (November 15), and Cagayan De Oro (November 22). The National Finals will be held on December 6 in Angeles, Pampanga.

Richard Yap and Enchong Dee as Kung Fu Chinitos in "Wansapanataym"

Richard Yap and Enchong Dee stars in the newest offering of ABS-CBN Network's "Wansapanataym", a TV show were viewers can learn the importance of family, love, appreciation, determination, courage and more. Richard and Enchong's episode titled "My Kung Fu Chinito" presents the value of courage and facing one's fear.

Richard and Enchong both admitted that they have a Chinese blood and a knowledge in martial arts, specially Richard. My Kung Fu Chinito requires fighting skills, so the two didn't have a hard time doing it.

"Yes I studied martial arts (Wushu = Chinese Kung Fu) when I was young, so medyo okay lang naman sa akin ang  mga fighting scenes, pero si Enchong talaga din kasi yung mas madami eh, pero kayang-kaya nya kahit wala syang background sa martial arts kasi malambot ang katawan nya eh" Richard said.



Enchong is one of the prime leading men of the network, done so many shows, TV series and movie, that have an adults and teen viewers but this time he is very happy because kids will appreciate or will be familiar with actors like him.

"Alam po nating lahat ng Wansapanataym ay ginawa talaga para sa mga bata, kaya po ang makagawa ng project na ito ay isang nakapasayang karanasan, para din po makita ng mga bata at marami po silang matututunan dito" Enchong said.
