Petron: 80 Years of Fueling Journeys

Put a tiger in your tank! You might recognize this slogan if you were a motorist in the ‘60s. Back then, Petron went by the name of Esso Philippines and Esso Extra was one of its well-known gasoline products.

Decades before putting “a tiger in your tank,” Petron has been fuelling your journeys on the road. It all started on September 7, 1933, when American oil firms Socony Vacuum Oil Company and Standard Oil Company merged to form Standard Vacuum Oil Company or Stanvac.

With the consumers’ changing demands, the company knew that a refinery would make them flexible and put the company at the forefront of fuel technology. And so they began construction of what would later be known as the Petron Bataan Refinery (PBR) at the dawn of the ‘60s.

From being a multinational, Petron became a government-controlled company in 1973, a partner of Saudi Aramco during the onset of deregulation in 1994, and now a fully privatized, Filipino-owned and operated company under the aegis of San Miguel Corporation.

Evolving for the Filipino

Today, Petron is the country’s largest oil refining and marketing company. From a refining capacity of only 25,000 barrels of crude oil in 1961, PBR is now an integrated crude oil refinery and petrochemicals complex with a rated capacity of 180,000 barrels per day. The company has 2,100 service stations nationwide and supplies nearly 40 percent of the country’s oil requirements.
Petron’s locally made environment-friendly products are testaments of Filipino talent and ingenuity. Even before the Clean Air Act was passed in 1999, Petron’s products were already compliant with its specifications, phasing out leaded gasoline nationwide well before the government’s December 2000 deadline.

In 2010, the company introduced Petron Turbo Diesel, a high-technology automotive diesel recommended for Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) engines, and Petron Blaze 100, a first-of-its-kind premium gasoline with a 100 octane number.

This year, they rolled out Petron Super Xtra Gasoline, which cleans away and prevents harmful engine deposits, and Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, the first premium plus gasoline in the country that meets more stringent fuel specifications set by the European Union.

Companion on the Road

Petron’s quality customer service complements its first-class products. Aside from selling lubricants and specialty products, their repair and maintenance centers are outfitted with modern equipment and manned by well-trained technicians.

In 2004, the company introduced the Petron Fleet Card, the first microchip-based fleet card in the country. Four years later, they launched the prepaid Petron e-Fuel Card, and last year the Petron Value Card.

Geared for the Future

Over the years, Petron’s commitment to care for the environment and nation building has grown.

The company embarked on a massive network expansion program in 2009. Since then, Petron has opened over 1,000 new stations all over the country, and pioneered the micro-filling or bulilit station business, particularly in far-flung areas.

In the first half of 2014, the $2-billion Refinery Expansion Program (RMP-2) will be completed. This project will increase Petron’s output of valuable products such as gasoline, diesel, and petrochemicals, helping ensure the long-term supply security of the country. More importantly, RMP-2 will enable Petron to locally produce more technologically advanced fuels that meet with Euro 4 fuel standard.

On its 80th year, Petron marks its first year since establishing Petron Malaysia, its first international foray. Petron Malaysia was founded in 2012 after Petron successfully acquired three Exxon Mobil downstream companies.

Petron promises to sustain its success by staying dedicated to and passionate about its vision to be the leading provider of total customer solutions in the energy sector and its derivative businesses. Consumers can expect the company to keep expanding its reach, evolving its products and services, and unfalteringly commit to nation building.

Repertory Philippines' Theater for Young Audiences proudly presents "ALICE IN WONDERLAND"

Repertory Philippines' Theater for Young Audiences is celebrating their 21st year of producing musicals for children. ALICE IN WONDERLAND the musical theater adapted from Lewis Carroll's classic 1865 novel, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' is the best choice to celebrate their anniversary . The classic tale is now re-told in an enchanting adaptation with Book by Jim Eiler. Music also by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy. Lyrics by Jim Eiler.

We all knew the girl name Alice and the adventures that she does in the place called Wonderland. A familiar scenario how Alice fell into the dreamland, met the talking rabbit as she follows by jumping into the rabbit hole. Alice met the famous residents of Wonderland and help them as well. Repertory Philippines and director Ms. Joy Virata and her staff brought all of these wondrous characters on stage from August 17 to December 15, 2013.

Recently a press preview was shown at Onstage, Greenbelt 1 and Alice together with the wonders of Wonderland was witnessed. Started with a dreaming Alice under the tree a very bright colored, Japanase origami style costumed people of Wonderland and hopping, wearing waistcoat rabbit. The Repertory production and costumes appeared to have Japanese inspired origami which I found interesting and innovative especially in the part where Alice varying her size.

Alice's (a 14 year-old Dani Gana) experiences and adventures in enchanting Wonderland are shown like: the dancing and singing at Palace Musical Hall with Cheshire (Nic Campos); Tea Party with Mad Hatter( Joel Trinidad), March Hare (James Stacey) and Dormouse (Josh Ramirez); Alice encountered with the King & Queen (Kendrick Ibasco and Bituin Escalante) and the Dutches ( Liesl Batucan) and more.

The most touching part for me is when Alice met the Caterpillar ( and the overwhelming wisdom along their conversation. Moreover, when caterpillar becomes Butterfly that gracefully dances around with Alice.

The audience will have a special participation also ( be prepared for that) remember the words I'm, Mad, You're, We're, All and Here. Added to that is, you will decide who won on a certain competition. The energy of the actors goes on and continued entertaining us up to the end and curtain call.

All in all, I really had fun and enjoyed the ALICE IN WONDERLAND, Repertory Philippines' Theater for Young Audiences captures my heart and I am sure yours too.

Repertory Philippines' 'Alice in Wonderland' started and will run until December 15, 2013 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City. Call (02) 571-6926 or (02) 571-4941 or visit www.repertoryphilippines.com for the play dates.

Dugong Buhay Set Visit

Been watching Dugong Buhay since it was started, because that's the first teleserye every time I open our TV from work. The story is interesting and I like how Ejay Falcon improved as an actor. If your following my blog, I shared informations and preparations of the casts and director of the actionserye in a presscon HERE.

Recently, me and other press had a chance to visit the cast and crew of the said program and we learn a lot of development, not only to the casts but the story of the teleserye "Napaka ganda ng ginawa namin para sa istorya nito noh? maraming twists and turns na siguradong dapat kaaabangan ng mga manunuod" said director Toto Natividad.

As you can see also on TV commercials or teleserye teasers, Ejay now is bald, a sign of more rebellious character Victor. Part of his hiding and hibernating from scrupulous members of De Lara.

"Kinakabahan po talaga ako habang gunugupit ko po ang bahok ko kasi alam kong malaking pagbabago po, pero hinihingi ng istorya and I have said before I will can do anything para po sa project na ito" Ejay divulge.

"Napakagaling po ng director namin palagi nya po ako tinuturuan ng mga bagay na kailangan ko sa pag-execute ng scene" Ejay added. But on the other hand, Ejay also shared that Simon played by Nonie Buencamino is a big part of his improvement from every scene and execution Nonie is always there for him, as he shared.

"Abangan po nila ang mahahalagang pang-yayari lalong lalo na po ngayon, kasi mabilis ang mga nangyayri at mainit ang mga labanan po" explained by more fit and focused Ejay, as he also inviting evryone to watch Dugong Buhay every weekdays at 3:30 in the afternoon only at ABS-CBN's Kapalmilya Gold.
