Fire, water, light, and wind are elements of Mother
Earth which are essential for mankind's survival and existence. Omit any of
these elements and we will surely disturb the equilibrium that allows man to
live a quality life. But what if you combine all these elements in one
television series? Wouldn't it be interesting to watch how the interplay of
these elements affect the lives of ordinary
mortals?
Primetime Bida has come up with one such series,
something which Pinoys would appreciate, even those with zero knowledge on
which elements are needed for survival or what. I am talking about "Apoy
sa Dagat", a television series now gaining ground in the ratings game.
Recently, I was included on the list of online
writers who were given the opportunity to interview the creative force behind
"Apoy sa Dagat". In a way, they are comparable to the essential
elements of nature. The directors, writers, production staff, and the actors
are basic components of any TV show. Take away any part, and the project would
crumble. "Apoy sa Dagat" is no different. In fact, the cohesiveness
displayed by all the members of the show heightened the role of each unit in
the creative process.
Direk FM Reyes, Direk Nick Olanda, Sir Henry
Quitain, Sir Arden Condez and some of the production staff were present on the
bloggers' conference held at the 13th Flr. ELJ Building, ABS-CBN Compound on
January 9. All of them are not simply proud of the "Apoy sa Dagat" team
but are also genuinely happy and satisfied to have such talented and hard-working people in one
project. From actors and actresses like Angelica Panganiban, Piolo Pascual, Diether
Ocampo and Angel Aquino, down to the cameramen who all willingly and regularly
soak half of their bodies in the water for hours just to capture those stunning
but realistic shots- each one epitomized dedication to their respective
crafts.( For a moment there, i reminded myself to quit thinking about Piolo and
Diether half naked at sea. Yummy!)

"Apoy sa Dagat" showcases the exemplary
performances of its stars like Angelica and Angel who portrayed their
characters perfectly. Direk Reyes stated, "In the case of Angelica, who
played twins that grew up in different environments, she really differentiated
her characters' individuality. Parang automatic na sa kanya."
Popular hunks Piolo and Diether also played out
their roles to a T. In all, the directors have nothing but praises for all the
protagonists of the series, reiterating every now and then the performers' seamless executions of emotions that need to
be rendered in each scene.
The staff and crew are the number one fans and
critics of the series themselves, Direk Reyes further revealed. "Pag-nag tetake kami, lahat
focused on what their individual duties are. But after the take and for the
preview, lahat sila nasa likod ko at may kaniya- kaniyang opinyon at hahanga ka
sa mga sinasabi nila. Minsan tulala at tahimik, yun pala affected na,"
Direk Reyes elaborated.
Although each one gives their best every taping day
of "Apoy sa Dagat" in either Manila or Batangas, time for relaxation
and bonding is an integral part of their daily grind. Camaraderie thrives
especially during the time which most of us consider as a ritual of survival
but which some consider as mainly social, that's none other than my favorite sosyalera habit - EATING!
"Mahilig kami kumain at ang niluluto namin ay
yung nabibili sa locality, like fresh fish from fishermen sa madaling
araw," direk Reyes said. As I am writing this, I think I should have asked
Direk Reyes right then and there if they still have an opening for a production
assistant. Hehe.
I am sure you have already seen samples of how they perfectly stitched this TV
series. The first few episodes give you
a taste of more exciting and also more complicated scenarios in the coming
episodes. I am 101% confident that you will get more hooked to the series when
the main characters journey into
adulthood, since that's where you will see the true meaning of "
Apoy Sa Dagat".
Add more color and thrill to your nights the cheapest way ever (Wahaha!),
make it a habit to watch "Apoy sa Dagat" every day from Mondays to
Fridays after " Ina, Kapatid, Anak" on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.
