Sony Philippines sets the stage to shine the spotlight on the best university musical performances through its “Like Performance, Love Sony” contest. Sony Believes in the musical potential of the Filipino youth, and this includes the next breed of balladeers, rock stars and divas. The reason why Sony will stop over five universities – Centro Escolar University on September 9, University of the Philippines on September 13, De La Salle University on September 14, Lyceum of the Philippines University on September 20 and Far Eastern University on September 29 and set the battlefield for the crème of the crop when it comes to music.
I witnessed that potential because I was invited last September 13 on their second road search for the next big university musical talent at University of the Philippines. I learned that the contest is open for solo performers and groups of up to five members, 18 to 30 years old. During the university roadshows, the performances of the participants will be filmed and recorded using Sony Handycam and Sony PCM-M10, a professional recording device which offers studio quality audio recording.
In the same way they will feature the latest products from Sony as well as the newest mobile phones of Sony Ericsson. Students are also in for a treat as Sony Music Philippines’ artists are set to perform at each university including the bands Kilos (University of the Philippines) Pupil, Itchyworms and rapper Gloc 9 etc.. They will not only raise the level of entertainment decibels higher for us, but they will also give valuable tips to the contestants as well for the betterment of their group and performance.
We asked the Brand Activation Management Division Director Alvin G. De Vera about the ongoing contest and he says " It turned out successful even were in the middle of the roadshows and found so many talented students and expected to choose the best among them to represent our country and will be flown to Singapore to attend the exclusive Sony Year-End Party and complete to five other countries'. 'The Filipinos cannot get enough of music or singing contests simply because the Filipino is nation blessed with the gift of melody. Today, music is undeniably one of the most popular forms of expression among the youth' says Erica dela Cruz, Sony Philippines Senior Officer for Brand Activation Management.
