'Oh My Gulay: School Vegetable Garden Program'

As a nurse I also observed the behavior of every patient that I handled especially with their recommended diet. A crucial part of an individual who was admitted at the hospital for treatment or any other diagnosis. As well as  people who have a growing health crisis in any walk of life. "Hidden hunger" is define as vitamin and mineral deficiency which is the leading cause of malnutrition in the world today. It strikes at the very core of individual's health and vitality. This malnutrition problem is evident in developing countries, that includes  Philippines, and it poses a serious challenge to human capital development. 

To fight this widespread battle of malnutrition, the government lead by Senator Edgardo J. Angara and Department of Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro spearheaded the 'Oh My Gulay: School Vegetable Garden' campaign. The private sectors has rallied also to support the said campaign by sponsoring school vegetable gardens in public elementary schools around the country and to formalized all this, I am privileged to witnessed the 'Donor's Signing' held at the Sofitel Philipppine Plaza early this morning.Some prominent people in the field of business and profession are present. Ms. Jose Paule OMG's Executive Director introduced the donors followed by the General Manager of East West Seed Co. Dr. Mary Ann Sayoc who gave a brief presentation of the OMG! School Garden Program which added more excitement for the results of this project, as the audio-video presentation was playing.The donor's signing was then executed right-after.

For this school year, BDO Foundation, Asian Terminals Inc, Sunwest Care Foundation, Infant Pediatrics and Nutrition Association of the Philippines (IPNAP) and Aboitiz Foundation will adopt a total of 40 public elementary schools across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The school gardens will be funded for the establishment of vegetable plots with common vegetables planted into it like kalabasa, sitaw, patola, talong, kamatis, ampalaya and others. This is also supported by artists and celebrities who advocated OMG like Anne Curtis, Sarah Geronimo, Cristine Reyes, Mark Bautista Sam Pinto and more.

OMG! Lead Convenor Senator Angara said that "this battle not only create a greater awareness about the wonders of vegetable consumption, but also by empowering children, their schools and their families to produce and enjoy their own vitamin and mineral-rich vegetables". This was reinforced by DepEd Secretary Bro. Luistro and stated that "despite our educational system beset with so many problems, don't allow ourselves neglect one fundamental cause of dwindling quality of education: malnutrition in schoolchildren"

It is very productive day to start with and I myself motivated to plant even vegetable like mongo, i'll try that one later let's see if its effective in that way hehehe... I think I need more healthy soil to sustain it first. Or i'll just buy vegetable on the grocery and leave it to the schoolchildren.But I will try promise.:)) Thanks for reading friends please don't hesitate to share.

FREE Entrepreneurship Training Programs Offered

As part of the celebrations of SME Development Week, DTI Secretary Gregory L. Domingo recently announced that budding entrepreneurs can avail of free entrepreneurship training programs to be offered on 8-9 July 2011, at the Philippine Trade Training Center.  This is in keeping with the drive to encourage more Filipinos to participate in the SME sector, with the call to action “Pinoy SME: Business Tayo!”

The free entrepreneurship programs will consist of Business Development Briefing Sessions offered by DTI-Bureau of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BMSMED) as part of its mandate to provide start-up enterprises with a knowledge base on a wide range of topics relevant to SME development.

Scheduled in the morning of Friday, 8 July 2011 are the following briefings:  How to be an Entrepreneur; Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) Law; Awareness on Product Standards Law; Consumer Rights and Protection; How to Acquire a BFAD Certificate.  

The afternoon session for Friday, 8 July 2011 will offer:  Integrated Business Licensing; Orientation on HALAL Certification; Orientation on the Cleaner Production for Small Business; Packaging Design and Labeling; Product Design Awareness; Orientation on Registering for Patents, Trademarks and Trade Names.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), which specializes in training programs intended to strengthen the Filipino export sector’s competitive advantage in the world market will also be offering free business management and demo skills sessions.

The course offerings on Friday, 8 July 2011 consist of:  Basic Hilot; E-marketing – Setting up a Webstore; How to Set up a Laundry Business; Perfume and Cologne Making; Exploring Business Opportunities in Kosher Markets; Herbal Soap Making; Meat Processing 1 & 2; Basic Beadworks; Laundry and Cleaning Aids; and Gift-wrapping.

Mixicology Seminar at GSM Blueniversity

Summer vacation is over and students are feeling excited to go back to school, feeling nervous, or scared. Time to learn knew things, gain new friends and a time to for growth and development. Continuing fun in and our of school signifies better acceptance in every lesson that life can give through-out your journey.

I myself finished attending school but I continually learning new things like last week, GSM Blue invited bloggers to a workshop that teaches us to mix drinks and learn about basic in cocktail drinks and flair tending. I haven't been around here much for a while because i've been trying to master the moves in bar tending but I failed hehe..now im back here to blog about it instead hehe..

The seminar held at Capones Bistro in A. Venue Makati City a perfect place to learn and enjoyed the GSM Blue drinks while learning. From different types and composition of drinks, to distillation process and finished by flair idols, cocktail mixing and of course contests which added the fun and rock the house all night. GSM Blue generously gave us knowledge that will make us proud in and out of school because as we all know the act of mixing is becoming a trend nowadays. All of us there received a certification on Mixicology Seminar yeayy. Thank you GSM Blue.

I wanna share I've learned like when you said Cocktail drinks its more on alcohol content than the juice and Punch is called if its on other way around. Moreover, you will know how strong the liquor base on their alcohol content which is usually express as 2xVol % or double the proof. Lastly, a drink with only ice on it is called 'on the rocks'

GSM Blueniversiy was proof that is a fun and great venue for bloggers, HRM students, and budding bartenters to knoe more about mixing cocktails and flair tending. They really tend to educate us not to intoxicate.

Run For Education On June 19 At Luneta

In celebration of our National Hero's 150th birth there will be a simultaneous nationwide fun run that would be initiated by the Department of Education on June 19, 2011. As we all celebrate Dr Jose Rizal's birth who also gave emphasized on the importance of education, we can do our part  by joining the fun run on Sunday with the theme " Every Runner A Finisher.Every Finisher A Winner. No One Left Behind". Here in NCR we can all join the fun run at Luneta on June 19 5AM. Participants are encouraged to donate educational materials in lieu of registration fee or sign a pledge form stating what you can contribute to upgrade the standard of education or volunteer time for education-related activities. Participants have a choice of 1, 2 or 3 kilometer run or walk in a designated area in Luneta (for NCR).

DepEd's Adopt-A-School Program (ASP) will set up a booth for the acceptance of donations like school supplies, equipments, toys for kinder garden drive and even electronic equipment like computers, fax machine, electric fun etc. While DepEd gets budget increase every year, still, it cannot keep pace with the increasing students population which grows by at least a million new entrants each .

Lat us all help and join for the betterment of education in our country even in a small way it means and can make a huge impact to Filipinos and other country as well. Im sure all of you will be at Luneta that day, I might as well go there as early as 5-6AM and start the celebration through running.

Global Academy's New Flagship Branch

The culinary field is one of the fastest growing industries today from television reality shows, cooking demo, and quick cooking segments are made to foster the audience needs who are interested or are into cooking. To begin with a career with cooking also makes it harder because you really have to choose a school that will suit and convenient for you and this process is not to be taken lightly.

Yesterday some bloggers including me, attended the open house event of Global Culinary and Hospitality Academy at Meralco Avenue, Pasig City which is newly open among campuses because they already have one in Makati, Alabang and Timog. As we enter the academy  in the 4th floor of Millinium Place building that has 550 square meter and it houses the Modern Asian interior design.

Seriously speaking the 2 kitchen labs, 23-seater theater demo rooms and the library area is for the hardcore and wanna be masters of the kitchen. From kitchen equipments, cutlery, rooms, student lockers, lounge area and other facilities are all in best quality. I can imagine Kenneth how he will begin to be the master chef because Kenneth of Certifiedfoodies.com is a blogger who dream to be come a chef and enrolled already for it will support him all through out naks..

After we toured around the campus we watched the two short demonstrations and also met Master Chefs - Terence Fereday , Rob Pengson and Roel Vargas. Chef Terence Fereday prepared Paella ala Filipina, as he cook the said menu it increases the excitement in me not only because we will eat but of course the facilities inside the demonstration room ahas high technology from the high powered equipments to the 3 LCD monitors facing the crowd instead of a mirror to witness the steps by steps procedure.

And then on the other room after the food demonstration of Chef Terence's delicious Paella ala Filipina and Chicken Ballotine. We'll then proceeded to the baking room for Chef Roel Vargas Macaron which we all had fun because it has audience participation.
