Last Wednesday April 27, 2011, I had a chance to visit the GSK's manufacturing facility located at Don Celso Tuason Avenue, Cainta Rizal and witnessed the GSK's Road To Good Health talk, as they share updates  of their commitment too improve good health of the Filipinos. For they believed  that every Filipino should have access to quality health care in line with its vision to be the leading provider of quality and affordable healthcare solutions to more Filipinos.

Right after our breakfast on GSK's company canteen, we entered the meeting room to discussed about 

company's products , mission, vision, compliance profile, safety practices, facilty master plan and the installation of solar tubes in warehouse as source of light within.Then my favorite part came into place, the tour around the manufacturing plant, at first we instructed to leave our things unfortunately I could take pictures but sir Dodie served as our photographer inside. Before we entered the premises, we wear a so called sanitation suit, the staff welcome us and starts to show laboratory for testing chemicals and raw materials. Moreover the production area which mostly are have Airlock rooms which protects user from hazardous materials and prevents intermanation during the operation. They have lots of equipments and machineries that are fully monitored and calibrated periodically, to name some are  Indo-Laval (Lemamix) Vacuum mixer,KILIAN 32,Y-cone Blender, Air Filters and many more which are used to mix and manufacture high quality of medicines and vaccines. They even have a so called monitoring wall which they put the or share incidents and priority matters. We even saw the packing and date labeling of Ventolin Capsules, Cortal for Hongkong consumption, Calpol and Astring-O-Sol.Then we went back to the conference room to have our Flu vaccination for free yeayy.Thank you GSK.

Then we had our lunch at Laya Personal Dining inside the Pinto Art Gallery located at Antipolo City which i'll make a separate blog about it because the place is so earthly unique. So after our healthy lunch the talk started by the PMA President Dr.Oscar Tinio about the ethical practices, prescription law and the importance of good and quality healthcare, then Ms Daisy Cembrano GSK's VP for Government and External Affairs talked about how pharmaceutical company's prolonged life and GSK's milestones through out the years by offering the reduction of their innovator brands by 30-50%, Value Health Program and researching new ways to do more for Filipino people. Added to that is a video from DOH Representative, which discussed about PhilHealth and how GSK trying to collaborate with the government on achieving quality medicines within reach. Were so privileged also that the GSK Philippine President and Managing Director Roberto Taboada spoke about the quality and cost of medicines that GSK is offering and the hope to help more Filipinos do more, feel better and live longer.

Suplado Tips by Stanley Chi

The humor book Suplado Tips, written by Stanley Chi, takes humor to a new level as it regales readers with witticisms that revolve around one conviction: suplado is the new sexy.

Stanley Chi, a celebrated humorist, is the man behind that notorious idea. Suplado Tips, Chi’s fourth book, is a compilation of smart-alecky tips on how to assert oneself with an air of cockiness. One suplado tip advises, “Kung may nagtampo sayo dahil na-sampolan mo ng supladong hirit, hiritan mo ng, ‘Hindi ko na problema yan!’ (If someone resents you for your snide retort, just say, ‘That’s no longer my problem!’)”

The book, just like any monumental discovery, started as a completely random and impromptu post on Facebook. “That online post turned out to be my very first suplado tip,” Chi said. “I toyed with the idea that being cocky can be a means of getting what you want – or at least a way to delude yourself that you already have everything in the first place.” Soon after he shared several of his suplado tips on Facebook, they spread like wildfire.

“Many people dream of sticking it to their bosses or giving someone they hate a nasty remark or two, but they often resort to doing none of the above. Filipinos tend to be non-confrontational, avoiding conflicts as much as they can. Suplado Tips is the funny respite that people with a grudge have been looking for,” Chi said.

“Reading a suplado tip is like acting out a fantasy. The book gives you many scenarios where being standoffish gives you the upper hand, something which otherwise would not happen in real life,” Chi added.

Having been released nationwide in National Bookstore and Fully Booked outlets just last March, some stores have already reported a shortage of the book. Suplado Tips has reaped a cult following even before the book’s release, with readers already scouring bookstores months before the book made it to the shelves.

Suplado Tips has spurred on a series of video testimonials, all of which hailed the book in comical embroidery. Ramon Bautista, a TV celebrity and a host of the former radio show, The Brewrats, gave the first testimonial. “Simula nung tinuruan ako ni Stanley Chi na maging suplado, nawala ang ubo ko (Ever since Stanley Chi taught me how to be stuck-up, my cough disappeared),” Bautista said in the video with pokerfaced wit. Obviously meant as a comical testament, Bautista went on to describe how being suplado has gained him more fans and stalkers, and how it eventually cured his skin problems. (Bautista also stepped up later on to write the book’s foreword.) Since then, many other celebrities have given their own hilarious accounts of how Suplado Tips has helped them, some of which were not entirely fictional.

With the book selling like pancakes way before the book launch to be held on the last week of May, PSICOM Publishing Inc.’s Tom Aquitania was more than happy that he asked Chi to write the book. After the undeniable popularity of Stanley Chi’s suplado tips on Facebook and on television’s Front Act (of which Chi was a host), Aquitania asked Chi to compile them into a book. “Stanley’s suplado tips on Facebook has even led to the creation of the Suplado Society of the Philippines, complete with its own suplado oath. All of this, despite being clearly just a pseudo-serious joke, is also an unmistakable sign that Stanley Chi’s suplado tips is something the public will want more of,” Aquitania said.

Stanley Chi, already popular for his quick wit and dry humor, brings candor to a new level through the contemporary Suplado Tips. Chi started showing his knack for comedy when he created the comic strip Chopsticks for Manila Bulletin eight years ago, still being published every Sunday. He went on to become a standup comic and a TV host for the comedy show Front Act.

Rizal Park: Looking To The Future

Last Thursday April 14,  I had a chance to listen to the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) Executive Director Juliet Horfilla Villegas, a veteran of the tourism industry about the revival of Rizal Park to its former glory.

Rizal Park, the site traces the start of   to the Spanish era developments and the Kilometer Zero marker of the Philippines.From the French word "lunette" meaning half moon, they called it Luneta because of its shape and it is the business center at that time.

Director Villegas preliminary talked about the history of Rizal Park from our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal's executions on Dec 30, 1896 (which will soon be celebrated the 150th birth anniversary on June 19), declaration  of  Independence Day from American rule on July4,1946, site of political and memorable rallies of Ferdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino to the presidential inauguration of Noynoy Aquino.

Then the presentation of now and then changes, reminiscing the area or part of Luneta that marked every individuals life.NPDC has embarked on a rapid refurbishment blitz that has so far amazed and awe "I call it the 'shock treatment' people come here and surprised at how beautiful and clean Rizal park has become" explains Director Villegas. I myself noticed it also as we rode the TRANVIA of Manila Ocean Park, like the dancing water fountain at the Lagoon, center pavements, vibrant children's playground, CCTV cameras, newly painted giant animal status the clean restrooms and environment, more lights, and roving personnel and securities.

Soon to be revived are the drinking fountains and putting free WiFi zone area, repair the underground drainage system and possible underground parking spaces and passages.Moreover being touted the one of  events venue for Cirque du Soleil troupe from June 23 to July 10, 2011 and the World Cup Philippines Year 2 on April 30 and May 15.

The Director envisions the new Rizal Park as a "Social Equalizer" and with ample volunteer and private-sector support, NPDC forecast its complete facelift well ahead of its 2016 deadline. "We hope to transform Rizal Park into a world-class urban park where Filipinos and visitors can rediscover history and heritage amidst the fresh air from the famed Manila Bay" remarks the Director.

Newest Attractions At Manila Ocean Park

Have you been to Manila Ocean Park (MOP) lately?, well this is your chance to visit them again  because they store a lot of exciting attractions starting this summer.  Get-up there and make your summer more enjoyable than the usual. I had a chance to saw those attractions last April 14.

MOP is against the unnecessary practice of shark finning, which sharks are captured and cut-off fins. As to impart the public about this information and awareness by integrating factors like education, communication campaign, science research programs and resource management for them.

And at night try the Sandbar Seafood & Grill which we had our dinner after a day of fun and excitement.
